What Is The Quality Of Hotel Bedding Linen?

2025-09-26
Core dimensions for evaluating the quality of hotel linens
The quality of linen directly determines the comfort and experience of accommodation, which can be judged by the following 2 key indicators:

1.Fabric material: determines the basic texture and durability
Fabric is the core of linen, and mainstream materials are divided into natural fibers and blended fibers, with significant differences in their performance:
Natural fiber: mainly cotton, is the preferred choice for mid to high end hotels.
Advantages: Moisture absorption and breathability, strong skin affinity, soft touch, and low static electricity generation after long-term use.
Subdivision: High count and high-density combed cotton (such as 60 or more) has a finer texture and better washability than ordinary cotton; Long staple cotton (such as Egyptian cotton and Xinjiang long staple cotton) produces fabrics with better glossiness and softness due to its longer fibers.
Blended fiber: commonly used in "cotton+polyester" blends (such as 80% cotton+20% polyester), mostly used in economy hotels.
Advantages: Lower cost, strong wrinkle resistance, less prone to shrinkage and deformation, and higher durability than pure cotton.
Disadvantage: Skin friendly and breathable properties are slightly inferior to pure cotton, and long-term use may result in pilling.

2. Count and density: determine fineness and durability
These two indicators are directly related to the "texture" and "lifespan" of linen, and are the core parameters for evaluating quality in the industry:
Count (S): Refers to the length of yarn (in yards) that can be spun from each pound (453.6 grams) of cotton. The higher the count, the finer and softer the yarn.
Low end hotels: mostly 20-40 units, with a rough texture and average breathability;
Mid end hotels: mostly 40-60 units, with a soft and moderate feel, while also considering durability;
High end/luxury hotels: mostly 60-120 units, some even reach 144 units, with a delicate texture like silk and excellent skin to skin feel.
Density (roots/square inch): Refers to the total number of warp and weft yarns per square inch of a fabric. The higher the density, the denser the fabric, the less likely it is to pill, and the stronger its durability.
Matching principle: The count and density should match (e.g. 60 counts are usually paired with a density of 300 or more). If the count is high and the density is low, the linen is prone to damage; Low support and high density result in a stiff texture.
