What Are The Core Differences Between Bedding With Different Thread Counts?

2025-06-27
1. Low thread count (100-200 TC)
characteristic:
Coarse yarn, sparse fabric: large gaps between warp and weft yarns, hard and rough texture, strong transparency.
Good breathability but poor texture: Strong air circulation, not stuffy to use in summer, but the fabric is prone to pilling and snagging, with a tight touch that feels more "pricked".
Applicable scenarios:
Scenarios with low comfort requirements, such as disposable bedding in hotels, simple decoration in rental houses, and pet mats.
Advantages: Extremely low price, fast drying after washing.
2. Medium to low thread count (200-300 TC)
characteristic:
The yarn becomes finer and the density is moderate: the fabric flatness is improved, the hand feel begins to be soft, and there is basically no light transmission.
Cost performance balance: Balancing breathability and durability, with better wrinkle resistance than low thread count, and less likely to deform after washing.
Applicable scenarios:
Student dormitories, basic daily household items, and universal bedding for all seasons (such as spring and autumn duvet covers).
Advantages: Moderate price, suitable for families with limited budget.
3. Medium to high mileage (300-400 TC)
characteristic:
The yarn is delicate and has a high density: the surface of the fabric is as smooth as silk, with a soft touch and a slight luster.
Significant improvement in comfort: enhanced moisture absorption, skin friendly and non irritating for close use, suitable for sensitive skin.
Applicable scenarios:
Main household bedding (such as a four piece master bedroom set), standard in high-end hotels, suitable for all seasons (slightly thicker in summer, warm in winter).
Advantages: Balancing texture and practicality, it is the "king of cost-effectiveness".
4. High line mileage (400-600 TC)
characteristic:
The yarn is extremely fine and dense: the fabric is as delicate as silk, with high glossiness, soft and sticky texture, and has a "sagging feeling" when folded.
Balance between breathability and warmth: Although the density is high, due to the fine yarn count (usually paired with 60S-80S high count yarn), it will not cause stuffiness and has a good temperature locking effect in winter.
Applicable scenarios:
High end household products (such as silk substitutes), baby crib products (requiring pure cotton materials), and winter thick bedding products.
Advantages: Luxurious texture, low pilling after long-term use, strong durability (requires correct washing).
5. Ultra high line mileage (above 600 TC)
characteristic:
Extremely delicate, close to real silk: the fabric is as soft as cashmere, with almost no texture on the surface, soft luster, and strong weight (due to high density).
Breathability depends on the material: if it is 100% long staple cotton+high count and high-density, it has excellent breathability; If blended with synthetic fibers, it may cause sweating.
Applicable scenarios:
Five star hotels, luxury Bedding Brands such as Frette and Sferra, and users who pursue the ultimate luxury experience.
Disadvantages: High price (ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of yuan), specialized care required for washing, and easy damage due to excessive friction.
